STEM Colloquium: A Historical Perspective and Some Recent Findings on DMT

N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound that is produced in the brains of mammals as well as in a number of botanical species. It has been used in ceremonial and spiritual contexts for over 1,000 years and is currently being investigated as a therapeutic for a number of mental and physical conditions. Little is known about how or why DMT is produced in the body, or how it acts to initiate such profound alterations in consciousness when administered to humans.

Presented by Nick Glynos, Departments of Molecular & Integrative Physiology and Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan, this STEM Colloquium will provide an historical and scientific overview of DMT, as well as insights into future studies based on his current doctoral dissertation work.

The STEM Colloquium series is free and open to all.
