FVCC Art Department Presents November 13 Gallery Talk with FVCC Instructor/Photographer Jim Goudy
October 30, 2024 — Kalispell, Mont. — Flathead Valley Community College’s art department is
set to host an exhibition closing and gallery talk with photographer and FVCC instructor Jim
Goudy on November 13. The event will be in the Arts and Technology Building lobby from
4:30-6pm. Attendance is free and open to all.
Growing up in a small Ohio farm town, Goudy found his passion for photography at an early
age, inspired by his mother’s old Brownie camera. By sixth grade, he had set up his first mini
darkroom in the bathroom and later channeled his skills toward the school newspaper.
Today, photography remains Goudy’s primary pastime, mostly drawn to the dynamic world of
street photography. His mission is to capture fleeting moments that often go unnoticed, as he
believes that life is full of overlooked beauty. He explains that street photography challenges him
to blend technical skills with an understanding of composition, light and empathy, allowing
photographers to frame a story in an instant.
“When photographing people, I strive to capture their dignity and humanity, presenting them with
respect and empathy…In essence, photography is about presence and narrative. So, if you find
yourself in the frame of a street photographer, consider it a compliment—it’s a recognition of the
unique story you carry,” says Goudy.
View the photography exhibition and join the closing gallery talk with Goudy Wednesday,
November 13 from 4:30-6pm.
