Summer Programs
FVCC’s Tropical Flora of Costa Rica Program is faculty-led and operated in unique and diverse ecological zones ranging from the high elevations of the Costa Rican cloud forest, and the coastal rain forest region of the Osa Peninsula. Participants are immersed in pristine jungle settings and reside in rustic multi-occupancy forest lodges and biological research station dormitories.

Curriculum
- 3 credits
- BIOO 217 – Tropical Flora of Costa Rica, 3 credits. (delivered by FVCC faculty on FVCC campus and in Costa Rica).
Eligibility
The program requires a minimum of 10 students and is limited to a maximum of 14 students.
Students must be 18 or older and have a GPA (FVCC or HS) of 2.5 or higher to apply.
Eligibility will be determined on a first come first served basis after the receipt of the initial $1000 deposit and completion of an interview.

FVCC’s Ocean Chemistry Program operates from the premises of the UC Berkeley Research Stations on the South Pacific Islands of Mo’orea and Tetiaroa. Gain a global perspective on the chemistry of natural waters.

- Spring semester: CHMY 291 – Chemical Oceanography of Tropical Marine Waters, 1 credit. (delivered by FVCC faculty on FVCC campus)
- Summer semester: CHMY 290 – Undergraduate Research: Chemical Oceanography, 3 credits. (delivered by FVCC faculty in Mo’orea/Tetiaroa)
Eligibility
Students must complete CHMY 121 (Introduction to General Chemistry) with a C or higher.
The program requires a minimum of 10 students and is limited to a maximum of 14 students.
Students must be 18 or older and have a GPA (FVCC or HS) of 2.5 or higher to apply.
Due to the extensive time spent snorkeling and on the water during this trip, all program participants will be required to pass a swim test administered at the Logan Health pool in Kalispell.

Positioned directly in Salzburg, Austria, you experience musical culture at its finest. With side trips to Munich, Germany and Vienna, Austria, this 14-day study abroad trip immerses participants into the heart of musical society and history. Experience the beautiful gardens at Mirabell Palace, the trick fountains at Hellbrunn Palace, the Collection of Musical Instruments in Vienna, Mozart’s birthplace, a hike in Salzkammergut, and so much more.

- Students must be 18 or older and have a GPA (FVCC or HS) of 2.5 or higher to apply. Students younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.

Spring Program
FVCC’s long-standing semester in Venice operates from the premises of the Istituto Venezia in the heart of the city. You’ll participate in an intensive studio and art history experience by immersing in the art and culture of Italy taught in English. The program includes Italian language immersion courses at the Istituto Venezia, a FVCC partner school for more than a decade.
Study in the dreamy light and sumptuous landscapes of Italy where the ancient and modern worlds exist side by side. History and culture abound in Italy – with Etruscan tombs, Greek temples, Roman ruins, and statue-filled Baroque fountains. Three millennia of history, culture and cuisine seduce just about everyone who visits. Nowhere else on earth does just living seem so extraordinary.

- Accommodations in Venice (fully furnished, triple occupancy apartments with kitchens) and on tour (shared hotel rooms)

Exchange Programs
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a year-long fellowship that gives students and recent graduates the opportunity to study and work in Germany. CBYX is open to students in all fields of study and at all levels of study, including graduating students who can participate after receiving their degrees. Students in the fields of agriculture, business, STEM, and vocational fields are especially encouraged to apply.
The program is funded by the US and German governments through a grant provided by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act.
Prior German language knowledge is not required, though it is preferred. Applicants should have clear career goals and some relevant work experience in their career field, which may include summer, part-time or internship work. Participants must be between the ages of 18-24, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
The CBYX program provides up to 75 annual U.S. participants with:
- 2 months intensive German language training
- One semester of study at a German university or university of applied sciences
- 5-month internship with a German company in the participant’s career field
- Homestays with German host families, in shared apartments, and student dorms
- Transatlantic airfare, health insurance, and monthly living expense stipends
- Local in-country support throughout the program
Flathead Valley Community College and the University of Lethbridge (U of L) in Alberta, Canada, have established a new exchange program that provides local Flathead Valley residents the opportunity to complete transferrable college credits at the University of Lethbridge. In addition, U of L students have the opportunity to study in the U.S. through FVCC’s partnerships with Montana University System (MUS) institutions and earn FVCC credits that transfer seamlessly to any other MUS institution.
