What are my chances of getting into a single apartment?
Single studio apartments are in high demand and go quickly when spaces open up. If we can place you in housing but no single studio apartments are available, we will offer you a spot in a two-bedroom shared apartment. You will have the opportunity to cancel your application if you are not satisfied with your housing assignment.
Will my financial aid cover my housing costs?
Financial aid may cover your housing costs depending on the amount of your overall financial aid package. If your net credit after paying your tuition and fees is sufficient to also cover your housing costs, then your aid can be applied to housing.
If your financial aid package covers your entire bill, including rent, then you do not need to come up with rent costs before disbursement. If this applies to you, please contact FVCC Business Services right away to inform them. You can find their desk in Blake Hall or call 406-756-3831.
Do I have to be a full-time student to stay in housing?
Priority for student housing is given to students enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits per semester (except for Summer). Part-time students are eligible to live in the Residence Hall as space permits. Dropping to or below part-time status from full-time status does not automatically cancel a housing contract. If you need to drop to or below part-time status, you can complete the Special Request Form.
Do you allow children and families?
We are not able to accommodate children or families.
Do I have to take classes to stay in student housing over Summer?
If you are registered for at least 12 credits for the following Fall, you do not have to take classes to stay in student housing over Summer. If you are taking less than 12 credits or will not be a student in the following Fall, then you must take at least 3 credits to stay in student housing over Summer. Please keep in mind that if you rely on financial aid to pay for student housing costs, this aid may not be available to you during Summer and you will still be required to pay housing charges. Contact finaidinfo@fvcc.edu for more information and to inquire about the status of your financial aid.
If I'm 21, may I have alcohol in my room?
No. FVCC is committed to providing an alcohol-free learning environment. Alcohol is prohibited in the Residence Hall, academic buildings, parking lots and all other areas of college property, regardless of your age.
If I'm 21 and/or have a prescription, may I have marijuana in my room?
No. Use, possession or distribution of illegal drugs and other controlled substances including medical or recreational marijuana or drug paraphernalia is prohibited on campus. Although Montana state law permits the use of medical marijuana, federal laws prohibit marijuana use, possession, or cultivation at educational institutions which receive federal funds. The use, possession, or cultivation of marijuana for medical or recreational purposes is therefore not allowed in any FVCC housing or any other FVCC property, nor is it allowed at any college-sponsored event or activity off campus.
Can I bring my own bed and/or desk and have the one provided stored?
No. The furniture provided by the college must remain in your room.
What if I don't like my roommate?
If you and your roommate are experiencing difficulty residing together, a Residence Life staff member will work with you and your roommate to learn to anticipate problems and develop coping strategies. If remediation strategies fail, a room change may be possible, depending on room availability. All room changes need to be approved by the Residence Life Coordinator; no room changes will be made before the seventh day of classes.
What is the Residence Hall visitation policy?
Rooms are reserved for specific students and are non-transferable. Founders Hall is a private residence for FVCC students, with access limited to residents, their guests, and authorized individuals. Residents are responsible for their room's activities, even if absent. Roommates must respect each other's privacy and agree on shared space usage. Cohabitation is prohibited. Guests are allowed if they respect the rights of other students and roommates. No more than ten people are allowed in a room at any time due to noise and fire hazards. Overnight guests require roommate permission, must follow all rules, and are limited to three nights per month, regardless of whether it is a different guest each stay. Non-resident guests must be escorted and follow all policies. Hosts are responsible for their guests' actions and may face disciplinary action for violations.
Can I stay in my room during semester breaks?
Yes, if you have not cancelled your housing commitment for the following semester.
