FVCC Student Honored with 2019 Montana Athletes in Service Award

Montana Campus Compact has honored Flathead Valley Community College student Preston Jeschke with the 2019 Montana Athletes in Service Award. Jeschke received the award during a half-time presentation at the Bobcat-Grizzly football game in Missoula on Nov. 23.

Every year Montana Campus Compact honors civically engaged student-athletes from around the state who have made significant contributions as volunteers in their communities.

Jeschke is a member of FVCC’s logger sports team and was nominated for the award by head coach Ann Beall, who noted Jeschke’s leadership qualities in her application. “He is an excellent role model for his teammates, not only showing them what they should be doing for the team, but also what they should be doing for their community,” Beall said.

Jeschke is a full-time student and has made community service part of his weekly routine. He has volunteered for several local nonprofit organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Sparrow’s Nest, Family Forestry Expo, Adopt a Highway, and Humane Society of Northwest Montana.

“Many times I have been helped by generous people or strangers, so in turn I want to help others,” Jeschke said. “Any legacy I would like to leave in this community would be that helping others is a great way to make life more enjoyable for everyone.”

Jeschke will graduate from FVCC this spring with an Associate of Science degree. He plans to transfer to Montana State University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
