Title IX and Sexual Misconduct

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on their sex or gender identify in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX states that: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

FVCC does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap in admission or access to, or treatment or employment in its educational programs or activities.

Campus Contacts

Inquiries concerning Title VI, Title IX and Section 504 may be referred to the Title IX Coordinator.

An Investigator assists in resolving complaints of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-related violence including stalking and intimate partner violence, and protected class discrimination and harassment at the College. When a complaint is filed, the Title IX Investigator will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation. The Title IX Investigator acts as a neutral party in the investigation and provides a detailed, unbiased report regarding the findings of the investigation.

Liaisons

Our campus has individuals on campus identified as a Title IX Liaison – a person who is available to support and refer students, staff, and/or faculty who are concerned about or want to report on incident of sexual harassment or assault.

Additional Support

FVCC employees involved in the College’s Title IX process such as the Title IX Coordinator, investigators, decision-makers, and any person who facilitates an informal resolution process, receive the training required by Title IX. The training includes, among other things, how to serve impartially and without bias.
