Qualifying for Services

To qualify for Disability Support Services at FVCC, students must request accommodations and provide current documentation of a disability from a licensed physician, psychologist, or other qualified professional. Some examples of documentation include, but are not limited to, medical assessments, psychological evaluations, correspondence from counselors or physicians, and high school Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans that reflect your diagnosis, potential barriers, and functional limitations.

If you believe that you may have an undiagnosed disability, you are encouraged to meet with the DSS coordinator. While FVCC does not provide or pay for medical or psychological testing, Disability Support Services may be able to connect you to community resources that can establish whether a disability is present.

Once a student requests accommodations and provides verification of their disability, the DSS office will schedule an intake meeting with the student. Using the documents provided by the student and the information gathered during the intake meeting, DSS will determine reasonable accommodations, supports and services that can help a student to access FVCC classes, programs, facilities, and activities.

Accommodations

Depending on a student’s disability and the functional limitations attributed to the disability, accommodations could include supports and services such as audiobooks, voice-typing, accessible seating, registration support, extended test time, low-vision magnifier, or ASL interpreting.
